Just released: the Official UK D-Day £2 Coin marking the most poignant anniversary of the year…

Coin collectors are rejoicing today as The Royal Mint have finally announced the release of the much-anticipated UK 2019 D-Day £2 coin. Although it was released back in January as part of their Annual UK Coin set, you couldn’t purchase the coin individually, outside of the set, until now…

It’s fair to say, of all the coins released this year, this is definitely the most poignant of all and it’s certainly caused a stir among collectors who will be eager to find one in their change. In fact, it’s likely to be the most sought-after £2 coin release of the year…

Issued to mark the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings this year, the largest amphibious assault in history, this is the only official UK coin to mark the anniversary and it’s been produced in collaboration with the Imperial War Museums, adding to its collectability.

Of course, the provenance of the anniversary plays a big part in the coin’s inevitable popularity but the design on the coin is certain to be another reason – it’s simply fantastic. Designed by renowned Royal Mint engraver, Stephen Taylor, the reverse cleverly features arrows with the famous code names of the beaches where Allied troops landed – Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword, each pointing across the English Channel to Normandy.

It’s a timeless tribute to the thousands of Allied troops who fought tirelessly and sacrificed their lives in the Normandy landings.

The coin has been issued in limited edition Gold Proof, Silver Piedfort Proof, and Brilliant Uncirculated.

Of course, the coin release won’t just attract coin collectors, but ex-military servicemen and their families looking to commemorate this special anniversary and with so many anniversary events and commemorations happening across the country in the next few months, it’s certainly one to look out for!
